(dpa file) – The picture shows an American cockroach crawling along a surface in Frankfurt Main, Germany, 11 October 1996. Even cockroaches become doddery and lazy in old age. Once they have reached the biblical age of 60 weeks, their joints become rusty, they start to stumble and they have a hard time climbing up ascending slopes. According to a report in the magazine ‚New Scientist‘ (No. 2422, P. 20), scientist at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, discovered that elderly cockroaches avoide open and unprotected space in order not to become a victim of dangerous predators.
